Un tuffo nei ricordi del passato, dal periodo adolescenziale in poi, con questo The best of Depeche Mode, “omaggio di diffusione culturale” di Valentina Paolacci, compagna di liceo “ritrovata” a Milano. Di alcuni brani permanevano nella mia memoria soltanto flash o vaghi ricordi di ritornelli o video musicali (di questi ultimi soprattutto del periodo dal 1997 in poi)…
Il CD contiene 18 brani che vanno dagli esordi del lontano 1981 al 2006, anno di pubblicazione della raccolta. Il livello, trattandosi di un best, è ovviamente alto, sebbene alcuni brani anni ’80, troppo legati agli anni di composizione, a nostro avviso risultano estremamente semplici e “infantili” (ci riferiamo in particolare a Just can’t get enough, New Life e Master e Servant). Decisamente migliore e più “pop” See You (1982). Di livello superiore, grazie a melodia e ritornelli, Everything counts, People are people e Never let me down again. Di pari livello alle succitate le più recenti I feel you (troppo monotona) e Suffer Well. In un’ipotetica scala da 1 a 5, si piazzano a 3: Dream on e Martyr. Da 4: Personal Jesus, Shake the desease, It’s no good, Strangelove, Walking on my shoes e Precious. La migliore in assoluto? Enjoy the silence ovviamente! Magnifica…

Il DVD contiene una selezione di 23 video e un documentario di 30 minuti nel quale i vari componenti della band, musicisti e produttori, svelano retroscena e curiosità relativi ad alcuni brani.
Una pecca della raccolta è l’assenza, nel libretto, dei testi delle canzoni.
Il rapporto qualità prezzo è buono per via della presenza del DVD ma, se si è interessati ai soli brani musicali, allora è decisamente più consigliato l’acquisto di The singles 81-04…
