Amnesiac è il quinto album dei Radiohead, pubblicato per la prima volta dalla Parlophone nel 2001 a soli sei mesi dall’uscita di Kid A…
Sorta di parte seconda di Kid A, Amnesiac risulta nel complesso meno sperimentale e omogeneo del predecessore, pur mantenendo marcata la presenza di elettronica, ambient, new age, jazz e noise. Chitarre acustiche ed elettriche, oltre a melodie lineari pop, tornano infatti in alcuni brani (su tutti Knives Out). I suoni e la voce sono inoltre più ovattati, onirici. Il livello qualitativo medio resta ottimo, anche se, nel complesso, appare inferiore al precedente del quale non è però un disco b-side. L’unico brano recuperato è infatti Morning Bell… Tra i brani spicca, a nostro avviso ovviamente, la coinvolgente I might be wrong, seguita da Dollars and cent, dalla struggente Pyramid song e da Like Spinning plates. A un gradino inferiore posizioniamo Knives out, Packt like sardines in a crushd tin box e The amazing sound of orgy. Buone, ma non eccelse, Morning bell/Amnesiac e Worrywort. Menzione speciale per la strumentale Pulk…

Testi dei brani non presenti. Il libretto contiene solamente illustrazioni, disegni e parti di fogli con bozze di testi… Le cartoline di Pyramid Song, Knives out e di una finta scheda di prestito libro completano il box.
Nel complesso un disco di ottimo livello consigliato a chiunque voglia dilettarsi con l’ascolto di musica non commerciale…
